Can you imagine yourself getting out during a rainy day without holding the beloved shelter of an umbrella in your hand? Even if your raincoat matches your outfit and keeps your clothes dry while walking under the rain, the use of an umbrella has transcended generations, royal customs and cultures, becoming a necessity, a cheap but highly desirable device that can indeed protect the beholder as well as improve his or her overall appearance.
Primarily the umbrella was used as a sunshade device, usually carried by ladies in order to protect their fair skins’ tones from the harmful sunlight. According to ancient scripts and representations, the parasol, or commonly referred today as the umbrella, was first seen in China, roughly 2,400 years ago. A human invention that according to historians its present form is based on the simpler practice of tiding together large leaves to form a protection shelter against the rain or the sun. Waving the original designs in the air in front of a high ranking individual, was a practice that was transferred through trade and the “Silk Road” to other ancient civilizations, like the Persians, the Egyptians, or the Greeks, from whom the Romans first saw it and continued to carry it as a symbol of class or even royalty.

One of the tales parents recite to their children in order to inform them about the dangers the sea hides, I had the pleasure of experience when I was an adolescent and not yet a firm believer that the most beloved part of my country, its sea, could really cause me or my family any harm. Not that I was coming from a family of sailors or that my father was a captain of a big ship or anything like that, but mainly because both of my parents were considering themselves to be seekers, travelers of the shore and the unknown dark blue waters. Especially my father, who used to be a very experienced scuba diver was always eager to give us a “sea lesson” while we were sailing with our small, but very loved, fishing boat.
The summer that I was about to turn fifteen and my brother was almost twelve, my father decided that we have enjoyed the island’s shores long enough and we were ready to receive our first practical sea lesson. We boarded our small fishing boat and after following my father’s expert advice, we begun our trip into the unknown clear blue sea.

Located on the north part of the western United States boarders and the south part of the eastern Canadian ones, one of most spectacular natural sites is the group of large water falls, worldwide famous as the Niagara Falls. Extremely wide, although not very high, the Niagara Falls is area has become over the years a tourist location for people of all ages, who visit this part of the world in order to admire the natural forces all year around.
But apart from hosting some extremely successful tourist resorts, the Niagara Falls is also a hydroelectric source of power. Since the three falls are shared by three cities, all named Niagara Falls-two in the New York area and one in Ontario, Canada-the citizens of those areas have relied on the Niagara Falls power to generate the required amount of energy and serve their needs, since the early 18th century.

Among the countless tourist attractions in contemporary London, such as the Houses of Parliament, Tower Bridge and Buckingham Palace, the one that can easily be considered the unforgettable “Queen” amongst them all, is the British Museum. Britain’s national museum of archaeology and antiquities was established by an act of Parliament in 1753, when the government purchased three large private collections consisting of books, manuscripts, prints, drawings, paintings, medals, coins, seals, cameos, and natural curiosities. Today, home of approximately seven million objects from all continents, the British museum is considered to be the most popular and famous museum in the world.
Located in the Bloomsbury district of London, the British museum’s collections in archaeology and ethnography are particularly outstanding. Being one of London’s principal tourist attractions, the visitor can admire its famous holdings, like the Elgin Marbles, carvings from the Athenian Parthenon, the Rosetta Stone, the Portland Vase, the Benin Bronzes, Egyptian Mummies, and the Chinese ceramics.

Tennis great Andre Agassi retired from the game of tennis in early-September after winding up his campaign in the US Open. And he went out with a bang, making it all the way to the third round before losing to a 25-year-old qualifier named Benjamin Becker, 7-5, 6-7 (4), 6-4, 7-5. It was a courageous effort by Agassi as he bucked back spasms and a number of aches and pains. In the end, despite Agassi’s tremendous will and the support of a wildly cheering U.S. Open crowd that was all on its feet, Agassi lost his final game.
Agassi’s farewell announcement to fans of New York City was eloquent and touching. “The scoreboard said I lost today, but what the scoreboard doesn’t say is what it is I have found. And over the last 21 years, I have found loyalty. You have pulled for me on the court and also in life. I’ve found inspiration. You have willed me to succeed, sometimes even in my lowest moments. And I’ve found generosity. You have given me your shoulders to stand on to reach for my dreams, dreams I could have never reached without you,â€? said Agassi.

This is the time of year when it’s hard not to indulge in our guilty food pleasures - but it’s a mistake to consider chocolate to be one of them. Eating chocolate - in moderation - should not involve any guilt.
Harvard researchers found that a few pieces of chocolate every month might actually make your life both sweeter and longer. The researchers studied the chocolate-consuming habits of more than 7,800 people. Those who ate chocolate one to three times a month lived longest. Those who indulged three or more times a week died earlier. But those who ate no chocolate at all died the earliest … by up to a year.
Here’s the full story on how Chocolates Make Your Life Sweeter and Longer.

Australia is an island nation of about 20 million people. Out landmass covers a huge area, which is mostly arid. The eastern seaboard has a large (albeit not overly lofty) mountain range that separates the continent into the more arid regions to the west, and the more lush coastal plains to the east. The major capital cities of Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane lie to the east of this range, and given the abundance of resources in these coastal plain regions the bulk of the Australian population can be found here.
It is this diversity of landscape that makes Australia the ideal holiday location… [read more on Australian Holidays]

It was nothing like any cheese pizza in the restaurants or by delivery, but it was also before we kids had ever had a cheese pizza pie of any kind, so it was to us gourmet. And it is to me today still the best I have ever had…for obvious reasons. Now if you will excuse me, I am either going to Bravo’s, on Geneva and Mission in San Francisco, Manor Room, in Pacifica, or am going to try to find the classic Chef Boyardee cheese pizza box I was first introduced to in the sixties and still crave today.

An unexpected rent increase can break the bank for someone living on a fixed income. Yet in today’s economy, a rent increase can be as commonplace an occurrence as the rising costs of gasoline and electricity. If most utilities such as heating and electricity are included in your monthly rent, the rising costs of those necessities can lead to an increase. New development and community improvements which make your neighborhood a safer or more cosmopolitan or attractive place to live, and thus more marketable, can also bring about a rise in the amount you are required to pay each month.

Whatever you do, don’t wait until the very last minute. This is the common mistake of many laymen air travelers. The pros always know to look ahead of time. I can still recall when it was a breeze to find cheap tickets. Heck, the airlines could hardly give the darn things away. It was after the 911 incident and flying was the last thing on anyone’s mind. Who wanted to risk another terrorist attempt! If nothing else, this could cause the plane to go down and hit water or land. Any way you cut it, you’re screwed. Fortunately America has not had another terrorist attack since then. With our beefed-up security it’s truly difficult to sneak anything through. These days you can’t even bring a Coke on the airplane. Although this is somewhat annoying for the majority of us, it’s practically imperative for our safety.

The first thing that you want to do is plan a destination. Choose destinations that are very popular for spenders because the locals really want you to spend money elsewhere. The big hotel chains don’t mind giving cheap hotel deals because there are so many people heading to these popular sites. The large hotels don’t mind discounting your stay because there is such heavy traffic going through the area. You also can find Las Vegas hotel specials on special sites dedicated to travel to Las Vegas. Finding great cheap hotel deals in a destination town like this is relatively easy.
