The Great Wall of China is the longest man-made structure on earth and visible from outer space. It is more than 4,000 miles long and it was built entirely by hand. A large portion was built by Emperor Shi Huangdi of the Qin Dynasty (221 - 206 BC). In ancient times, walls were built between warring regions, as well as to protect outside invaders.
