Beginner Golfers Should Choose Woods Over Driver

For beginners, the driver, or 1-wood, usually is one of the most difficult clubs to master. It is the longest club in the bag, which makes it the toughest to control in the swing. This lack of control may lead to many future problems in your golf swing resulting in more slices and shorter distances in your drive.

A 3-wood is usually the second-longest club in a golfer’s bag. Fairway woods have smaller heads than drivers and get progressively shorter than drivers. That makes them easier to control in the swing than a driver, and for that reason beginners are often encouraged to use a fairway wood off the tee rather than trying to “whack a driver” right from the start.

Using the shorter 3-wood or even a 5-wood to give you more control off the tee can lead to better play and an enjoyable game of golf. Continue reading about golf fairway woods and more golf tips
