Antacids are a drugstore formulation that neutralizes the acids in your stomach. It is a fast acting remedy for acid reflux, which consist of calcium carbonate, which is a chalk like liquid. This is an acid neutralizer which makes your stomach less acidic and this will cause you more problems than your acid reflux, if used for a long time.
