Buying a used boat and financing a boat

Thursday, December 31st, 2009

After deciding to get a boat you’ll find yourself trying to figure out how to pay for it. As discussed before cash is best. If your boat involves some financing through a credit line, unsecured loan, home equity loan or from a boat lender choosing the right lender and financing can be as important as finding the right boat.

There are a lot of sources of financing and several things to consider when financing a boat. The first is how long do you plan to keep the boat? If it’s you first boat it will be sensible to find a loan that is very flexible so you can pay it off or even trade it in and not still owe payments. I kept my first boat for 9 months and then bought a bigger, faster, better one.

If your new boat is the one of your dreams you can expect to have it financed for a longer time which does make it more important to get a cheaper or fixed rate loan and yet have terms that give you a monthly payment you can afford.

If you are going to keep a boat for a long, long time and you can afford it you should get a new boat. If you can’t afford a new boat or have doubts about owning a boat then for sure go look at buying a used boat.

While buying a used boat isn’t to glamorous it is a great decision for some people. The waterways and lakes are filled with people who have more money than average people and some will go way beyond what they can afford just to have a very fancy boat. Don’t do that and don’t get in over your head financially for a boat.

Most people don’t consider the rich guy who has a 60 foot yacht, and take it out once or twice a year, a boater at all. What really matters is being out on the water doing what you find to be fun. You can do this just fine in a used boat and be a great boater at the same time. Being out there is what counts, not what you are out there in.

Duck hunting and snow goose hunting

Thursday, December 31st, 2009

Duck hunting is a lot of fun and waterfowl hunting is one of the more popular hunting sports in the world. Duck and goose hunters are a pretty social group, on the whole and it’s as much a social calling as it is a hunt. If you’ve ever been to a Ducks Unlimited banquet you know what I mean. If you haven’t been to one I highly recommend you go.

Waterfowl hunting has a culture all its own and even has it’s own dress code. If you aren’t dressed right your buddies are going to laugh at you. Of course it also helps you stay concealed while in or out of a hunting blind. Warmth is also important so be sure to get good hunting clothes. It’s hard to hunt when you are shivering.

It’s almost time for spring snow goose hunting in Eastern South Dakota and the 2010 spring snow goose migration will be well underway by the end of March or earlier. Seems hunting is best right at the snow line and that’s where the geese are congregated or were. It’s a bit late to get some snow geese this year but next spring will be really good.

A federal snow goose stamp is not required and in SD you can shoot 20 snow geese per day with no possesion limit. For the cost of a license you can pretty much eat goose year around because there are sure a ton of them around waiting to be shot.

Ice fishing houses and winter bass fishing

Thursday, December 31st, 2009

If you’re looking for ice fishing houses rental in Eastern South Dakota around the Lake Thompson, Madison and Watertown areas you just found what you were looking for. There are two large ice fishing houses for rent. To make it even better both fish houses are new.

Ice fishing shacks are 8 by 20
Each fish house has ten holes
One wall heater per house
Battery hookup for lights in each
Four beds in each fish house
Easy set up
Each wheel cranks up individually including the hitch.

You should bring 1 additional small heater for the back of the fishing shack. Also I’d suggest a lantern to save on your battery.

When the water temperature dips below 50 degrees bass fishing becomes a real challenge. When the cold water temperatures of winter arrive bass head toward deep water. While in the fall you were able to find bass back in shallow coves and creeks where they were busy foraging preparing for long periods of winter inactivity, once the water temperatures drop they migrate away from these areas into the main body of the lake where they are able to find areas with deeper water. Often they will be found along sharp drops where they can move in and out of the deeper water into a more shallow area to feed. A depth finder will be an invaluable tool for winter bass fishing.

It is important to remember that because a bass is cold blooded, a decrease in temperature also brings a decrease in the fish’s activity level. This decrease in activity is a result of a decrease in the fish’s metabolism. Put simply, because a bass does not digest his food as quickly in winter he does not need to feed as often.

Remodeling and Electricians

Thursday, December 31st, 2009

If you are remodeling your home, you might have read the article “An El Dorado Hills Electrician Can Make the Most of Your Remodel.” If so, then you know the importance of getting a trained El Dorado Hills electrician to help you with your wiring. Only a proper electrician can keep things perfectly done and up to code. If you haven’t read the article, then I suggest that you do before you try to do the electrical work in your house alone.

Keep the packaging and then you can buy the copycat and refill the brand name package.

How to get the cheapest plane tickets

Thursday, December 31st, 2009

Flying is really the best way to travel in the world. It’s by far the fastest way to get from A to B, if the distance is more the a couple of hours with a car, and it sure beats a two-day road trip with the kids in the back asking; “are we there yet?”. How to get the cheapest plane tickets?

Alternative airports
Lower landing fees for the airline usually means cheaper plane tickets for you. Researching the possibilities and making compromises can get you to a destination much cheaper.

Trip timing
The timing of your trip can also influence the cost of your ticket. Some times planning months, and even up to a year in advance can be the best way to find cheap plane flights. Other times last minute deals can be the way to go.

Departure/return days
A great tip is to check out prices for Tuesday-Wednesday-Thursday departure and return days, as these are the least popular days to travel.

Athletic Shoes

Wednesday, December 30th, 2009

I have worn athletic shoes for years. After all, they are comfortable, go well with most things, and are reasonably priced. I wore gym shoes when I was a kid, and I just never really grew out of it. I have only been wearing athletic shoes as an athlete for a little while, however, and am still getting used to it. I never really thought about the variety of tennis shoes before.

I used to just go into the athletic shoe store and buy a pair of whatever looked good to me and felt good on my feet. I have pretty wide feet, so most of the time I like to wear New Balance shoes. I have always felt that they fit my feet better than anything else out there. Sometimes I would come home with running shoes, other times I would be wearing basketball shoes on my feet, and still other times I would have nothing but a pair of Chuck Tailors. (more…)

Use A Mortgage Broker To Finance Your Dream Home

Saturday, December 19th, 2009

If you’re looking to buy a cottage or vacation home, build one, or add on to an existing structure, you are likely going to need a construction loan to pay for the work for your family vacation home.

Financing of cottages and vacation properties can be a bit trickier than regular mortgage financing for your primary residence. There are some rules and regulations you need to consider in terms of the use of your cottage property, location, and so on.

But not to worry about the additional details. Just contact a mortgage specialist that is experienced in financing vacation related scenarios.

A specialized mortgage broker will know all the ins and outs of the related rules as well as the lender program than operate in different regions.

Using a broker can also give you access to lenders that you would not otherwise have on your own due to the manner in which some lenders market their mortgage programs exclusively through mortgage networks.

There are ways that you can even leverage the equity in your primary residence to help secure a mortgage for a cottage that you may want to look into with your chosen broker.

Getting some professional help is likely going to save you considerable time and money and help you get your purchase or project complete for the terms and conditions you want.

Electronic Book Reader Kindle 2

Tuesday, December 15th, 2009

It brought online bookstores to people. Now Amazon is bringing ebooks to readers and the device to read them with too. We’re stepping into the future of reading as more people catch on to reading ebooks. Without doubt, the Kindle Electronic Book Reader has done wonders in paving the way and now we have the Kindle 2, bigger, faster and more powerful. Fasten your seatbelts!

With the supply chain of books becoming increasingly e-based, paper-filled books were always going to turn into e books. Now that we have just the perfect all-in-one device to procure, read and bring with you all the books you want anywhere you go and anytime you want, that’s hard to resist. Oprah loves her electronic book reader, so too will many of us love ours.

There are several brands of electronic book readers to choose from in the market. Having that said, don’t bother to look beyond the top of the pack as many of the rest are still in beta. By far the two most proven brands are the Amazon Kindle and Sony PRS. Both have generated running series and are already into their latter models. The consensus though, is Amazon with its Kindle 2 is fast drawing away from competition with Sony’s flagship PRS – 700 a distant second.

The Kindle ebook reader is in great demand. Availability of stock at Amazon is at best intermittent. Waiting time fluctuates and they are not accepting overseas orders although some 3rd-party distributers and retailers do ship abroad with due shipping charges and mark-up. They are also sporadically spotted on eBay and when they are, are surely to be accompanied by price premium.

Electronic book readers are a boon not only to people, they are environmentally friendly too. Imagine the number of trees a top brand like Kindle can be credited with saving from the paper mill for books let alone the total effect of all e book reader brands combined. Through the Whispersync, the 15 million or so iPhones and iPod Touches are recently equipped to read Amazon e-titles making them green too overnight.

Kindle Book Reader Electronic save money too. Savvy readers would realize that Amazon subsidizes its Kindle book sales and provides free sampling of e-books so you are never mistaken about buying a book. That may be string attached to sell its electronic book reader but the bottom line makes sense at the end of the day. Even for occasional readers, this should be a no-brainer. That’s on top of all the other good stuff it brings.

Paint Balling for Beginners

Monday, December 14th, 2009

You probably have heard of one of the world’s fastest growing sports known as paint balling or more commonly referred to as “paintball”. This sport is a combination of many skills, and as such there is much more to it than simply running around the bush or field dressed up as “Rambo”.

Unfortunately there is a great deal of misinformation out there, generally put forth by people who have little, if any, real experience playing this exciting game. Tales of “so-called” injuries from playing paintball abound, yet if you wear the proper gear and follow the rules, the most you may have at the end of the day are some insignificant welts and perhaps a scrape or two from falling down or tripping while running through the bush or on the course. A very small price to pay for your participation in such as exciting, adrenaline pounding sport!

To this date, there are no verified deaths or life threatening injuries from paint balling or paintball being played in the correct manner. So what are you waiting for? If you are still unconvinced, read my article “Introduction to Paintball” for more information.

See you “on the field of battle”!

Experience everything that makes Mercedes-Benz special – Experience the A-Class

Monday, December 14th, 2009

The A-Class is all about outstanding practicality that goes hand in hand with aesthetic pleasure. Despite the compact exterior dimensions, even the rear passengers can relax in plenty of space. The A-Class has a wealth of practical details as part of the standard equipment package on offer: air conditioning, an on-board computer, a multi-function steering wheel, as well as the standard-fit hill-start assist, which makes hill starts much easier by maintaining the brake pressure for a short time and thus preventing the car from rolling backwards unintentionally. Optional equipment: a panoramic sunroof
offering a clear view of the sky and a removable armrest with through-loading feature in the middle of the rear compartment. Plus the optional EASY-VARIO system allows you to simply raise the cushions of the rear seats, fold the backrests forward and move the height-adjustable load-compartment floor into its higher position. The 1: 2 split-folding rear seats are fitted as standard, so you can fold down the right section of the rear-seat unit and still carry a rear passenger on the left. The A-Class is packed with the latest safety technology. For example, the Electronic Stability Program (ESP) and acceleration skid control (ASR) – help you to remain in better control in dangerous driving situations. Brake Assist (BAS)
helps to build up the maximum braking pressure whilst the familiar anti-lock braking system (ABS) prevents the wheels from locking up. Plus the A-Class now features adaptive brake lights as standard: in
the event of an emergency stop when travelling at over 50 km/h, the brake lamps start flashing several times a second to warn any vehicles behind, thus potentially shortening their stopping distance
decisively. Even in an emergency, you can count on the A-Class. Its high level of safety is partly down to its form: in the event of a frontal impact, the engine and transmission slide along the inclined pedal floor and under the passenger compartment. This intelligent form of crumple zone reduces the risk of occupant injury substantially. If there is a rear impact, the front head restraints are activated to help prevent whiplash injuries. Here the distance between the occupant’s head and the head restraint is shortened in order to reduce whiplash. The aim of Mercedes-Benz is to ensure that you arrive at your destination save and sound. For driving pleasure the A-Class engines are packed with power. The petrol
line-up comprises the A180 (85 kW) and the A200 (100 kW) . There is also a diesel model, the A180 CDI (80 kW). Despite so much power, all the engines are models of modesty when it comes to fuel consumption. The secret is reduced friction losses in the engine, a high compression ratio and improved in-cylinder flow.
For more information on the Mercedes-Benz A-class contact your Mercedes-Benz East Rand dealer.

Lake view real estate and new boats

Sunday, December 13th, 2009

So you think you want to own a boat. If you like being outdoors on the water boating is a great idea. They are more fun than most people can imagine. However boats are also more hassle than most people think they will be. That’s why you need all the information this site has to offer before you buy a new boat.

Personally I’ve owned 12-14 different boats from small twelve foot aluminum fishing craft to a 20 foot pontoon you could pull tubes or skiers with. I’ve owned inboards and outboards, fishing boats and fast ones that you could pull three or four skiers.

My suggestions would be to figure out what you want to use it for, who’s going to be with you and how much you can afford to spend on a boat. The upfront costs are pretty clear but the cost of ownership does surprise some people at the costs or time for maintenance and for just using it.

Boats don’t get great gas mileage and the faster your craft goes the more fuel you will burn. This wasn’t a consideration for most people until gas went way up. Parts, supplies and repairs are also costly. Don’t underestimate your aftermarket costs or you will be very surprised. Even boat accessories aren’t cheap.

I spent a lot of time looking for lake view real estate in South Dakota and in MINN. I figured it would be easy to find lake real estate in South Dakota but it wasn’t. There is now a south dakota lakes and streams assoc at South Shore in SD but the net wasn’t as advanced as it is now when I was looking for a lake lot so I never found it. It probably would have been easier if I had.

There is a lot of land around SD lakes but it’s not near as developed as all of the lakes in MN are. I was quite surprised when I discovered that. When I checked the SD DNR lake home regulations I also discovered they weren’t as strict as Minnesotas were. Lake shore prices were much cheaper too.

I thought about buying on the Missouri River because I read many walleye fishing report lake for oahe in SD but I really didn’t want to go that far west. Eventually I settled on Lake Thompson between Lake Preston and DeSmet SD.

I wanted to be on a lake that was great for fishing. Particularly for northerns, walleyes and perch. Thompson is a great lake for those and crappies and smallmouth bass.
