The iconic tower was commissioned for the Paris World’s Fair to commemorate the centennial anniversary of the French Revolution. In addition to being a tourist attraction, it also serves a practical purpose as a radio transmitter since the start of the 20th century. Visitors can ascend to the Observation Deck via pulley lifts and stairs, to be rewarded with a magnificent view of the capital. There are interesting pieces of information posted on each level about the history of the Eiffel Tower. Two restaurants serve the public. Altitude 95 is located on the first floor and Jules Verne, a gastronomic restaurant, is on the second floor. A light show, using flashing lights and searchlights, has lit up the tower every evening since 2000.

The most striking feature of Dartmouth Castle is that it stands tall right on the banks of the Dart Estuary - a stunning waterside setting. Dartmouth Castle was initially built in the 14th Century, but underwent substantial works in the 15th Century when Henry VIII had it redesigned to be able to better fit his weaponry. Close to Dartmouth Castle is Kingswear Castle and St Petroc’s Church. Given the beautiful setting (right at the mouth of the Dart Estuary), Dartmouth Castle is well worth a visit - not just to marvel at the history but to enjoy the awesome scenery and perhaps enjoy a picnic.

I want to go on the Danube River. Actually, I want to travel on the Danube from Germany all the way to Hungary. I just find it fascinating to travel on a river through different countries in Europe. I’ve worked hard all my life and just retired so I think it’s about time I treated myself to an “adventure”. But then again, I’m no Huckleberry Finn. I want a comfortable “adventure”.
I’ve been doing some research online about the best way to travel on the Danube and it turns out there are companies that offer Danube river cruises. This is exactly what I’m looking for. These cruises take you down the Danube River and you get to experience life in Germany, Austria, and Hungary along the river. One river cruise company seems pretty legit (Viking River Cruises) and the reviews I’ve read online are strong. But I’m not ready to rule out the others. Does anyone have and advice or experiences with other river cruise companies? I mean don’t get me wrong. This Viking River Cruise company seems pretty good and they do offer pretty much what I’m looking for, but I’m not one to jump at the first offer I find. Any guidance on other Danube river cruises?

I just have to say that if you’ve never been on a river cruise before, you should definitely experience one. I recently went on a cruise on the Danube and have to write about it. The trip was excellent. I’d never been on a river cruise before and it’s much different than your typical ocean cruise. The ships are a bit different but that’s expected since huge ocean cruisers are too big for many rivers. And when I say different, I’m simply referring to the overall size and look. The cruise ship I was on for my Danube river cruise was very nice and elegant. In any regard, the cruise was very nice. I discovered new cities, met great people, and was finally able to live my dream of visiting Budapest (it was a stop on the cruise). And best of all, I didn’t have to pay for it. The trip was a gift from my 5 children. The Danube river cruise I went on through Viking River Cruises was amazing and I can’t thank my children enough for getting me this lovely gift. I guess it pays to have 5 kids after all J.

Europe has an endless list of attractions for travelers, from architecture and art to parks and beaches to food and wine. There is one more thing that could be as much attractive as tasting wine and visiting vineyards of France, Italy or Spain. I am talking about beer! And if you love beer as much as I do - then it’s a reason enough to visit Europe, where all beer traditions started, and which centuries-old recipes were adapted by the rest of the world. Germany, being a home to Oktoberfest festivals and the world’s most enthusiastic consumers of beer, dominates European beer market with the biggest number of breweries among European countries. It would be safe to say that Germany is number one travel destination among beer lovers. But let’s explore four other European countries, which are probably slightly overlooked by travelers, who appreciate a “pint” of brew after a long day of sightseeing.
