For years after I had children, I tried to get my perfectly sculpted stomach back. You know what I mean. Children are wonderful blessings, but they sure leave a mark… or two or three or ten. However, I simply wanted to be able to fit into my bathing suit again. With all of that left over belly bulge, I just couldn’t. I tried sit-ups and crunches until I was blue in the face, but nothing seemed to work. Family Exercise A Good Idea For All

Exercise is important so we can stay fit and healthy, so it’s important that our whole family exercises. Depending on the age of your children, this may be difficult, but a family walk around a park, or a family swimm can be fun for all, while your bodies gain some benefit. If you are going to be watching your child play soccer, consider walking around the field instead of going to sit in the car, or the nearest coffee shop.

Show your children exercise can be fun, and you enjoy it, and it will encourage them to continue their fitness activities as they get older. And remember to continue them yourself, even if time is short. You can easily make yourself walk a few steps further each day, just by parking your car further away from the entrance you use to get to the office, or the mall. By doing this, you will slowly get your muscles moving without it being a huge strain or drain on your time.

There’s a back problem that is most frequently seen in people who are athletically active in their teenage years. It’s called spondylolisthesis which is where one vertebrae slips over another. It’s often the result of a spinal crack or defect, but is common in people who have been ballet dancers or football players or involved in other sports activities.

Spondylothesis happens when someone subjects the spine to repeated bending backwards.
The “cure” for spondylothesis is to let the fracture heal. That’s what the vertebrae slipping is usually due to – a fracture in the spine.

It can usually be corrected with a brace and cessation of athletic activities. Sometimes surgery is required and the two vertebrae are fused. Sometimes people go for years with slipped vertebrae. The fracture isn’t corrected early in life, because there’s little pain to indicate a problem exists. Unfortunately, this can result in back problems when you get older, because the spine heals incorrectly.
