One of the most enjoyable activities there is, is to get outdoors and go hiking. I like to hike as often as I can so it is important that I have the right hiking boots on my feet. The last thing I want after a great hike is to have sore feet. However, there is more to buying hiking boots than going to the store and buying what looks best on the rack.

Having the best hiking boots you can buy can make a difference in not only your comfort, but your safety as well. When you go to the sports store in search of boots, you will need to have in mind the type of hiking you plan to be doing.

Hike Diamond Head in Hawaii

Monday, October 15th, 2007

I’m an avid hiker and like to go on hikes even when I go on vacation. I find hiking very relaxing. And that was definitely the case when I hiked Diamond Head in Hawaii. Most people go to Hawaii to lay out on the beach or surf. I found out about Diamond Head from this site called Dan’s Hawaii that has a ton of insightful information on attractions the locals only know about. True Diamond Head is one of Hawaii’s most famous landmarks but if you want to hike Diamond Head in Hawaii, you need to check out this site. It gave me all the details I needed to know to hike the trails and make the most of my Hawaiian hiking excursion. Thanks Dan!

People, Who Snow Ski, Must Be Crazy!

Friday, September 7th, 2007

It’s so cold, it’s so wet, and it’s so dangerous? Please let me share why we are not Crazy!

For Everyone.

Snow skiing is one of the really exciting sports that combine exhilaration, fellowship, ambience and adventure, for all levels of participants. In Europe, children are being taught to ski as young as 2 years old and on the same slopes there are people over 90 years young. There are people of every nationality, race, creed and colour. There are one armed, one legged and even blind people, involved everywhere, at some level. What is the appeal of a sport that brings so many different people together, amidst the cold snow, in the sprit of friendliness and just having a good time?

Ambience.

So you have finished your dinner and you sit in the armchairs in front of the roaring log fire. The shadows flicker gently on the walls as the flames continue their dance in the huge fireplace. You feel relaxed, comfortable and sleepy as you spend time with your new friends. For some, the cobwebs fill your brain and you drift off to sleep. Others will gain a second wind and be off to the local nightspot to party. And finally, you toddle off to bed and descend into the deep relaxing, well earned sleep, from which even the party goers returning home, cannot stir you.

Adventure.

Skiing is always an adventure. When as beginner, you go up to the first time on the chair lift and see the steepness of that blue slope, your heart starts to flutter. Exactly the same when, as an accomplished skier, you stand on top of the almost vertical expanse of virgin snow, spread out below you. It is an adventure when you are having lunch, high in the mountains, surrounded by the giant peaks and deep valleys that seem to go forever. And meeting men and women from all walks of life, foreign cultures, struggling with language and customs, is all part of the adventure.

So skiing is a passion for me. I learned to ski late in life and after finding it, discovered a wonderful world of fun, friendship and adventure. So you are welcome to my world and may you share in all of the above, and then some!!

What You Should Know About Sports MP3 Player

Wednesday, July 25th, 2007

Nice info about the sports MP3 player!

The sports MP3 players, however, seem to be more ruggedly made. It’s not like the one that I bought is a particularly high end one either. It is just your basic run-of-the-mill sport 128 mb mp3 player.  It was practically the cheapest sports MP3 player that I could find, but it seems to work well. It is small and portable, and it has just enough memory for a few…

Friday, July 20th, 2007

Hiking boots have become a fashion statement, but don’t be fooled by a pretty face.  Protect your feet from the possible damage the outside world can do to your feet by wearing the right pair of Hiking Boots.

In addition, boots provide you with ample ankle support to keep the boot from twisting as you leap off rocks, wade across streams, and walk down the trail’s steep inclines.

Cheap airplane tickets

Friday, July 20th, 2007

They allow us to purchase gas for a little less during one week and then they jack the price up for the weekend. It’s truly getting on my nerves. No wonder gas theft is bad in my neck of the woods. We already know the companies aren’t paying much for it. Therefore we’re getting ripped-off for no good reason. And then there the plane ticket issue. Can you really find cheap airplane tickets online? This is a question I’ve been struggling with over the last few days.

Outdoor Survival – What to Pack for a Backpacking Adventure

Wednesday, July 4th, 2007

Whether you do a lot of backpacking or not, knowing what to pack in a backpack can be a lifesaving skill. Knowing what to take along, how to survive in the wild and basic first aid skills needs to be taught to every young person.

Here is a list of many items that need to be taken on every backpacking adventure:

A first aid kit.

A basic first aid kit is a requirement for any backpacking journey. You never know when you will need a tourniquet or ice pack or a snake bite kit. Gauze, iodine solution, milk of magnesia, antibiotics, antipyretics, and even mosquito repellent lotion are great items to have along in the wilderness.

The Right Clothing

The best clothes to take along on any hiking journey are those that won’t restrict your movements. You will also need sturdy but comfy boots. A bandana can be very handy, too. It can be used to prevent sweat from interfering with your vision and can also be a part of your first aid kit.

More Backpack Basics.

Whenever you go backpacking be sure to bring along a good compass, a flashlight, a fire starter, a Swiss knife and a reliable map. You do not want to venture away from civilization without these items. Use common sense to dictate what else you need to take. The important thing is to stay safe.

Visit North Georgia

Tuesday, July 3rd, 2007

The northern end of the state of Georgia is a mountainous region and was the home of the Cherokee people before settlers arrived from Europe. The scenery and history attract many visitors to North Georgia in what was the site for several USA Civil War encounters. There are some unusual tourist centers in the region, including the town of Helen in the Appalachian Mountains.  It is replicated from a typical alpine village in Bavaria, Germany.

Exploring China – The Great Wall

Thursday, June 28th, 2007

It was once commonly thought that the great wall China was the only human built thing on earth that was distinguishable from space. However, this is not true. There are other things that stand out, but the great wall is one of the most prominent. This is because it was built to go a very long way, and that makes it easier to pick out if looking down from anywhere above the earth.

Many people find that camping makes for some wonderful weekend getaways. Pitching a tent and sleeping in a sleeping bag aren’t my favorite, but many people love being in nature. A lot of families find that this is an expensive and wonderful bonding weekend getaway that makes for some wonderful memories.

Wanting to have a weekend getaway isn’t as tough as you might think. If you can afford to take a last minute whirlwind trip someplace, go for it. If you aren’t able to do that financially, open your phone book. Find someplace nearby that you could escape to. No matter where you go, the main purpose is to relax.

Family Vacations and Four Season Tent

Tuesday, June 12th, 2007

What type of tent do you need?  Are you going tent camping, close to your car and most amenities?  Or are you taking a hike deep into the wood, away from creature comforts?  One of the best tents you can buy is the four season tent; which is constructed to hold up snow and the whiles of winter and the rays of the sun.  Most of these four season tents don’t offer a lot of ventilation, but they do have a book hole giving you the ability to cook inside, saving you from the biting winds, rain and snow of an outdoor trek; while also keeping you warm in the winter and cool in the summer.

They’ll usually have steep roofs allow the snow to slide off easily, but four safety will have four poles to support the weight and an extra door to allow escape should one door be obstructed.  So a four season tent is a serious tent and possibly more than you’d need for tent camping, but they are the premium tents and designed to last you for years to come (with proper care).  You’ll need to make that decision and certainly most won’t need a true four season tent for casual camping.
