Let me say that I was fairly impressed. I had never even stated a four star hotel before, and to me luxury accommodations simply meant a clean room with a soft bed. five star hotels took everything to a new level entirely.

I was amazed at the price, but because I am picky about where I stay, I paid it anyway. While a twenty dollar difference in hotel rates is not going to hurt someone like me too much, I started to feel bad for those who book weeks at a time in one hotel, and those who much travel for business, sometimes at their own expense. This summer when I departed again, I noticed that it wasn’t just that one place that had an increase in hotel rates. Another of my favorites is today about twenty five dollars more per night than it was just two years ago. While I usually don’t mind, this time the raise in hotel rates made me change my mind about staying there.

If you enjoy traveling by car and want to see some of the sights in South Dakota I would like to suggest to you that you visit the Crazy Horse Memorial. Although not as well known as Mt Rushmore it is an impressive sight. The Crazy Horse Memorial is a sculpture made out of a mountain also but it is not as large. It is a sculpture of an indian on a horse, I’ll let you guess which one. It too took many years to make but the story of how it was built is interesting. I guess the person who did it didn’t think that all large mountain sculptures should be of old white men. The native Americans need to have  their memorial too. The drive from anywhere to the memorial is a long one, so you need to be prepared for that. The roads there are not well traveled either so make sure you have all your emergency supplies in the trunk in case of car problems. The last time I was there, there were no cell phone towers in several stretches of the journey, that may have changed by now, but I wouldn’t be counting on being able to call someone to get you out of trouble.
