4 Steps You Have To Master As A Surfer
Sunday, March 11th, 2012
A skilled surfer is something you can bring out of you if you’ve been surfing a lot. But if you want to be skilled when it comes to surfing, you’ll have to learn more than a normal surfer do.
Surfing is always about having fun and learning new tricks while you’re on the surface water. To be a skilled surfer you should first know the basic. The basics of a real surfer is when you know how to choose a board, lie on a board, paddle while on a board, sit on a board and stand on a board. You’ll have to master all these steps to be a skilled surfer.
As a surfer, you have to know how to choose the right board. As a beginner, you might want to go with a cheap board just for practice purposes. If you’re just into surfing, you’ll have to get a board that has quality but not too expensive because you might not want to use the board for surfing. If you already have the idea in choosing the right board, the next skill you need to master is lying on your board. Surfer boards are long and you might want to measure where you lie on or how you lie on it. Lying on your board with the right position can help you paddle through the waves properly. You might think that paddling is easy but if you incorrectly paddle your way out of a wave you may not control your speed. The next skill you want to master is sitting on a board; this is a way of relaxing while waiting for a wave. As a beginner, you have to know where to sit on the board. You don’t want to lose your balance and slide off your board while sitting on it. This can distract other surfers and waste your energy since you’ll have to climb up your surfboard again. And because you’re surfing, you’ll have to learn the technique in standing on your board. This is the last step for you to ride on a wave. So enjoy!
You can categorize your surfing skills with the number of times you go out on the beach and practice surfing. To be a real surfer you have to practice almost every day to master these steps. You will not get the hang of these surfing steps if you only practice during weekends or if you only surf when your buddy is up for surfing. Surfing should be a passion and should be done every day until you have full control with your board.
A real surfer has discipline while on the water. Real surfers always think about safety. Thus, when you go out for a practice, whether you’re a beginner or an advanced surfer, you’ll have to have teamwork while riding the waves. When you see someone riding the wave, make sure you move out of the way to avoid accidents. Remember, a skilled surfer knows 2 species while surfing, the surfer and the paddler. Respect, teamwork and discipline should be displayed while on the oceans waiting for a wave.
This guide as a real surfer can be intimidating but if you think about it, surfing is fun and easy. It doesn’t really matter if you can ride a huge wave and be known as a surfer. What matter is that, you can ride a wave smoothly, with full control.
