Garmin Announces New Nuvi 1690

Thursday, November 5th, 2009

Garmin recently announced the release of the new Garmin nuvi 1690 GPS navigator. This portable device has a built-in bluetooth module which lets the customer use Garmin’s nüLink! service which provides direct links to information such as Google, traffic, cheap fuel prices and weather updates and Ciao!. The nuvi 1690 basically takes the same features of the previous top models and coat it with greater connectivity features to make navigation more convenient.

In the United States this is the first Car GPS device which offers the use of multiple online features in the purchase price as it comes with 2 years of Garmin nüLink! access free. Garmin’s nüvi 1690 also has the most complete set of POI (point of interest) search capabilities due to availability of Google local search and white page phone lists. Just like your PCr you can type in key words or names of destinations and get quick responses with the detail of a PC.

That $499 list price on the nuvi 1690 will include two years of connected services – not great, but a solid feature nonetheless. Although a subscription for the Garmin nüLink! services are required, navigation is a whole lot easier overall with the Garmin nuvi 1690.

Garmin Introduces Top of the Line nuvi 880

Tuesday, November 18th, 2008

Garmin’s nuvi 880 GPS navigator goes beyond the usual navigational capabilities from a GPS point of view. It has an MP3 player, picture viewer, and a bevy of great and wonderful features. Garmin’s key product philosophy is to make complex technology easy to use for anyone right out of the box, and perhaps nowhere is that better exemplified than in the Garmin 880.

nüvi 880 comes ready to go right out of the box with preloaded City Navigator® NT street maps and millions of points of interest (POIs) such as hotels, restaurants, fuel stations, ATMs and more. Speak a menu option or touch the color screen to enter a destination, and nüvi takes you there with 2-D or 3-D maps and turn-by-turn voice directions. It even announces the name of exits and streets so you never have to take your eyes off the road. In addition, nüvi 880 accepts custom points of interest, such as school zones and safety cameras and lets you set proximity alerts to warn you of upcoming POIs. Garmin 880 comes with a range of useful accessories.
